Cuttyhunk is the outermost of the Elizabeth Islands, a short ferry ride from New Bedford and just a few miles from Martha’s Vineyard. There are no cars to rent, no chain hotels, and no traffic — just beaches, hiking trails, a working harbor, and a handful of places to eat and sleep. If you’ve never been, here’s what to know before you go.

Catch the Cuttyhunk Ferry or a water taxi from New Bedford, or arrive by private boat.

Cottage rentals go fast in summer — historic inns and private cottages, not hotels.

Beaches, trails, and history
Hike to Lookout Hill, cast for striped bass, kayak the pond, and visit a small museum full of island history.
